Stand Up for Amanda Anti-bullying campaign

The M.U.R.A.L. program was created in 2008 by NycArtsCypher president, Charlie Balducci to respond to the spike in Graffiti related arrests in the Staten Island community.  Frustrated by the negativity connected to the art, he envisioned a program that could alter this perspective & sought out NYC Graffiti artists to help him with his mission.  The idea was simple: educate the kids on the history of the artform, teach them the skills to perform & give them the opportunity to do what they want in a safe & productive environment.

The entire creation of the program was documented and won “Best Documentary Short” at the 2010 Staten Island Film FestivalThe NycArtsCypher would also like to thank the Staten Island Community for recognizing the hard work and dedication to promoting the positive side of the artform of Graffiti.

In the 80′s, considered the “Old School,” there began a street dance that defied the laws of gravity with a mix of rhythm, gymnastics, power, and attitude.  It was called B-Boyin’, and sometimes breakdancing.  It was more than what you did, it was what you were.  One of the most powerful of the urban art elements, the NycArtsCypher carries on that tradition by offering the space for dancers from all around NYC to rehearse.  The Cypher Cyndikit program are those who become a part of our movement, learn routines, and dedicate themselves to helping the NycArtsCypher spread the positive message through the performing arts.

Open sessions are Monday and Wednesday, 6pm to 8pm

This media arts program spotlights emerging artists and teens in positive arts and entertainment activities such as competitions, programs, and special projects.  The footage is them edited in-house and broadcasted via internet on our website and all the popular social media outlets such as Youtube and Facebook.  We frequently shoot inside our creative venue and for our members, but will venture out to explore related content.

BREAKOUT! looks to expand into a platform for teens to shoot & edit their own material and learn how to market and promote themselves as an artist or assist in helping another emerging professionals excel.  We also involve interested participants in the media arts services and provide to the business community, giving them a real hands on experience on how to develop production skills.  This is not the future, it is now, & the NycArtsCypher can show you the way!

Please help us expand our programs by making a donation. We can develop new programs in all areas of arts and entertainment!
